Biggest issue I have with it is that it’s shounen. You’ll see rules specific to the dragon quest universe pretty often essentially.Īs for how I felt personally, that kind of fan service did leave me with a huge smile on my face in the first few episodes, so I’d say it’s worth at least checking out. Like early on a dragon shows up, and for a second it freezes in the exact pose it stands in in the games.

Of course you’ll see everyone casting dragon quest spells, but there’s other stuff too. Best way I can explain it is that it’s a classic shounen, with dragon quest fan service in it. The main appeal for it though is in the fact that it’s dragon quest. It feels very much like things like dragon ball and those kinds of shows, over the top, without really trying to be that deep. I watched only 7 episodes of it so far, so from what I’ve seen it’s decent, it’s a very standard shounen that hasn’t really done much unique so far, but it being unique isn’t really the point (especially since it’s a remake of a pretty old show anyways, so I’d imagine that style of shounen was a bit more fresh back then).
